Major boost to infrastructure development projects in Sonipat Metropolitan Area
New projects should be planned keeping in mind the estimated population of the region says, CM
Chandigarh/New Delhi : Haryana Chief Minister and Chairman, Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority (SMDA), Sh. Nayab Singh Saini chaired the third meeting of the Authority. In the meeting several important agenda items related to the overall development of the Sonipat Metropolitan Area, strengthening urban infrastructure and expanding civic amenities were approved. Various development projects were discussed and approved in the presence of senior officers from different departments.
Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Sh. Anil Vij, Public Works and Public Health Engineering Minister, Sh. Ranbir Gangwa, Cooperation Minister, Dr. Arvind Sharma, MLAs, Sh. Nikhil Madan, Sh. Devender Kadyan and Smt. Krishna Gahlawat, along with Mayor, Sh. Rajiv Jain, were also present in the meeting.
Important projects related to roads, drainage, drinking water, sewerage, parking, sports, religious tourism, environment protection and renewable energy in the Sonipat urban area were approved during the meeting. These include construction of a 45-metre-wide master road between Sectors 16/17, master road crossings connecting different sectors in the Rai area, land acquisition for remaining portions of master roads in various sectors, construction of open courts and a pavilion in the Sector-4 sports complex, and construction of a multi-level parking and commercial office complex.
Apart from this, projects related to the development of a religious and cultural ghat at Mimarpur on the banks of the Yamuna river, strengthening of master sewer lines and the storm water drainage system in different sectors were also approved. Proposals for construction of retaining walls, flood walls and fencing along drains in Sonipat, Kharkhoda and Kundli areas to prevent solid waste dumping were also approved.
The meeting also approved proposals to strengthen the urban drainage system using modern technology, expansion of the master water supply network in different sectors, and installation of grid-connected solar power plants at water infrastructure sites. These projects will help reduce energy costs and promote environmental protection.
A proposal for construction of a four-lane bypass road for the Ganaur area was also approved, which will improve traffic movement and provide better connectivity to nearby villages and residents.
The Chief Minister directed officers to plan new schemes and projects keeping in mind the estimated population of the region so that people can get maximum benefit from development works. He also directed officers to ensure that contractors complete projects within the fixed timeline and strict action should be taken against those failing to complete work on time.
With the approval of these projects, infrastructure in the Sonipat Metropolitan Area will be strengthened and facilities related to traffic, drainage, drinking water, sports, tourism and environment will be expanded, providing better urban amenities to citizens.
During the meeting, CEO, Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority, Sh. Sushil Sarwan informed the Chief Minister about the action taken on decisions made in the previous meeting and upcoming projects.
Principal Advisor (Urban Development) Sh. D.S. Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Town and Country Planning and Urban Estates Department, Sh. Anurag Agarwal, Sonipat Police Commissioner, Ms.Mamta Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Ms.Neha Singh and other senior officers were also present during the meeting.
